Across the Sea of Words—A Voyage Replete in the Lord,
The task is never complete, in One Book there comes no resolution. The race begets a new race. And You are left with the burning question, What Now Oh Lord?
If You set Out to complete Your education. Or begin a literary life. Want to Be a Man of Letters. Can there be any answer? There must be a poeticism and poetic attraction to the sounds that rhythm over Your Mind and Tongue. As You Read give pause to let it sink in.
Are You a Man of Letters. Since Boyhood You have seen books not as an escape but as a life’s work and life’s task. Others dig in the garden, but You look for what is planted by the verbs of Men. Of the Past and in the Present Moment. You can speak across the generations and intellects of gentlemen long before You. To Be a Man of Letters, this is what You desire.
But does it help. After many seasons of such work, after the cycles of disappointments and lacklustre resolves, after revolutions of the same tedium. What have You learned in comparison with All that is Known. And can You bring Your letters to market so that anyone would care.
You say You want a burning intellect. Here it is. And that is all She lady wisdom wrote. But what of all that is missed, can You really see beyond the water shone horizon. Do Your words extend the skies or hop along the water trail. Can they carry You like the breeze does. Along with the Wind…
