Monk Mode, the Significance of the Head Shave and Gnosis.
What is the most generalizable trait of a Monk in the classic or popularized conception of such, perhaps separated out from spirituality and religious affiliation it is this: A head first plunge into dedication and discipline (what could aptly be described as commitment to conscientiousness). And I mean the head first thing quite literally. Often, Monks (and likewise Men entering basic training in the military with similar fervour,) begin their initiation into their chosen life with a ritual shaving of their head. There was a German (or Danish) psychologist on a Ted Talk presentation who spoke of a trinity of motivational significance for pursing one’s life passion - that was: Head (Knowledge), Hands (Skillset), and Heart (Emotional Pull). But the first part of the trinity relays well with the motif of this article which is that your Head propels you into the major decisions of your life, it is in effect the gathering or conjuring of a decision made by an accumulated threshold of knowledge: in a word, Gnosis.
