Teleology and the Telic Principle: ‘God in the Room right next to Me’
how do they hold up against Atheist arguments?
I was contemplating a certain person in my life as the embodiment of an argument diametrically opposed to the idea of God, Creation, and Teleology. You see, Langan explains that randomness as an explanatory principle or principle of causation is not sufficient or even convincing at all, akin to saying ‘magic’ is the cause. But then what do those who are diametrically opposed say? People (who generally have an IQ in the 115-120 range paired with unbelievable arrogance and even academic ‘Prestige Economy’ titles) who call themselves Scientists or say something ridiculous like: “I don’t believe in God, I believe in Science,” as if Science and God were equal as causal concepts or that Science had figured out the Universe descriptively without God or had discovered the Universe minus God.
But these peoples’ strongest argument is: “well I know I’m Wrong, I know my limits, there is no final answer of causation, it is unknowable…so in that case-sure randomness is not a principle of causation. But you don’t have a better answer because Teleology isn’t a thing, its not real, and nothing can be its own cause; therefore God couldn’t have caused himself.”
To fight back, against the thrust of this general line of Atheist reasoning, the best answer comes from Exodus Chapter 3 out of the bible; where God tells Moses what his name Is: “And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And He said, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:14).
And within you own inbuilt faculties of reason; by human logic, even independently of these words being written (which is the absolute Truth) You can lean on a logic that exists even outside of common Philosophy, that is actually Sentential, Binary, ‘Yes or No’ logic, you might say: “We are here, aren’t we? We are teleological in that we have intrinsic ends and purposes and designs for our life. We use Logos. And the Universe appears fairly damn orderly to me with your so called Laws of Nature.” You see God did compel his own being as a principle of his own causation, how do we know this beyond a shadow of a doubt? BECAUSE you’re HERE silly. You are here with all the attendant Order, Chaos, Meaning, Suffering, and the absolute ‘raison d’etre,’ that is ‘justification for being’ which you fully posses in and of yourself. As Heidegger would say your Dasein (Being) is Care. You Care don’t you? This is direct factual evidence that you are Teleological, and if you are Teleological, then you being too (like God) were compelling enough to be caused - (though the theological/teleological chain travels back through us to God; God created Us and gave us his Teleology, where God compelled his own Being and then Compelled our being).
Atheist reasoning is like someone shutting the blinds/curtains of a window and Exclaiming: “The Whole Universe is Inside this very room, and there’s no such thing as the outdoors, or trees or rocks.” That is thinking akin to a mouse that ‘If I can’t see it it doesn’t exist.’ At its strongest Atheist Reasoning can claim ‘I see this dinosaur Bone therefore Dinosaurs existed,’ sure enough what you see is real. So if you shut the curtains or blinds of your room your room is still there. True.
But guess what? I am teleological and this teleology is in the room right next to me, with all the attendant logic of chain teleology and chain causation that comes with it; including the First mover. So if teleology is right next to me, so is God by why of direct vision of inference. And by the way, so is the Word of God in the room next to me in the form of the Bible. A collection of books that it is physically impossible to have emerged without the Core of its message and Creator being Real in the way they are descried. The Apostles Lived and Died (Died Brutally with Faith still in them) didn’t they? and yet the Word still appeared on paper with its Saving Message: would you die for something you made up like a stupid play you wrote while drunk? I think not, case closed.
Can’t you see Teleology in your life? If you can, as we all can, then you can also See God as first Telor. If you are not sufficiently bespectacled (if you vision fails you and then fails to see God) then I say, as Jordan Peterson does, that you have not felt enough Pain, have not suffered; such pain will assuredly convince you. It will be your very sight.
As always I am here to help you with your load in life, Blessings,
